The establishment of a demonstration plot sign in Penyangga Village as the initial step for the bioprospecting farmer group in the Mount Ciremai National Park, Kuningan, West Java.
SURYO RISET INA.COM - In 2024, PT. SRI (Suryo Riset Indonesia) is taking a new step in supporting conservation and community welfare through collaboration with BNGi (Bogor Natur Indonesia), backed by funding from the FOLU Net Sink 2030 Project. This project is based on a cooperation agreement between the Government of Indonesia and the Kingdom of Norway, with funding provided by the Environmental Fund Management Agency (BPDLH). As the main partner in the program's implementation, SRI collaborates with various parties, including BNGi, to conduct bioprospecting activities in the Ciremai Mountain National Park. One of the primary focuses of this program is the development of PGPR C71 as a leading commodity in efforts to enhance sustainable agricultural productivity.
PGPR (Plant Growth-Promoting Rhizobacteria) are superior biological agents with incredible abilities to enhance plant growth naturally. The selection of PGPR C71 is based on its great potential to improve soil quality, increase nutrient absorption, and reduce dependence on chemical fertilizers. To prove its effectiveness, the establishment of demonstration plots in Cikaracak and Bandorasa Kulon villages has begun in collaboration with local farmers involved in this program.
Plants using PGPR C71 grow more vigorously, have greener and upright leaves, and show signs of healthy growth.
Plants that do not use PGPR appear wilted, with curved leaves as an indication of stress and lack of nutrients.
Plants without PGPR show stress symptoms. Their leaves curl and wilt, indicating a lack of the plants' ability to effectively absorb nutrients. Soil that has been used for intensive agriculture for a long time is increasingly losing its fertility, making it difficult for plants to grow optimally. In contrast, plants treated with PGPR C71 appear fresh and grow well. Their leaves are greener and upright, indicating that the root system is functioning optimally thanks to the presence of beneficial bacteria from PGPR C71. These microorganisms help improve nutrient availability around the roots, stimulate growth, and protect plants from pathogens.
Through a series of training sessions and direct field mentoring, farmers' trust in the use of PGPR is gradually being established. Each stakeholder works tirelessly to monitor the progress of demonstration plots, provide technical support, and ensure that every farmer understands how to properly apply PGPR.
The results speak for themselves. During one planting season, productivity in the demonstration plot increased by up to 30%, while the use of chemical fertilizers was successfully reduced by 50%. This not only lowers production costs but also mitigates negative impacts on the environment. Furthermore, the increase in productivity broadened farmers' understanding of more environmentally friendly sustainable farming practices.
PGPR C71 plays an important role in soil conservation by reducing dependence on excessive chemical fertilizers. This microorganism naturally enhances nutrient availability in the soil, allowing plants to grow healthily without the need for additional chemicals that can harm the ecosystem.
With the application of PGPR C71, the use of chemical fertilizers was successfully reduced by up to 50%, thus mitigating negative environmental impacts such as soil degradation and water source pollution. In addition, PGPR C71 contributes to improving soil structure, enhancing soil microbial balance, and strengthening the sustainability of agricultural ecosystem support.
This step is in line with conservation efforts, ensuring that the land remains fertile and productive for future generations without sacrificing environmental balance.
This success is a tangible proof that innovation and collaboration can bring about significant change. More than just improving agricultural productivity, it also helps restore the ecological balance in Mount Ciremai National Park. The quality of soil and water in the surrounding area is gradually improving, providing new hope for environmental sustainability.
Through PGPR C71, solutions have been found for various problems, while also providing effective tools for the communities surrounding Mount Ciremai National Park to improve their quality of life. This success represents the first step toward a grand vision: a sustainable Mount Ciremai National Park and prosperous communities. This step is believed to be just the beginning of various innovations and progress in the future.
PT. SRI continues to support biological innovations such as PGPR C71 as a tangible solution for sustainable agriculture and the welfare of Indonesian farmers.
